A real mountain village at the foot of the Col de la Croix de Fer
Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves is not a resort built from scratch in the seventies. It is a village — with its church, its working farms and its year-round residents — set at the foot of the Col de la Croix de Fer and the Étendard glacier.
In winter it opens onto Les Sybelles, one of the largest ski areas in the Alps, linking five resorts without ever going back to the car. In summer it is a base camp for hiking, for the legendary cycling passes, and for the high pastures where Beaufort cheese is made.
The area's altitude and aspect give it long hours of sun and snow that lasts — and, outside the school holidays, slopes you actually get to ski.

What there actually is to do once the bags are down, depending on the season you come.
Five resorts linked ski-in ski-out, from gentle greens to a full day's traverse. Enough terrain never to ski the same run twice in a week.
The routes around the Col de la Croix de Fer and the Étendard glacier are among the great classics of the Maurienne.
Waymarked trails leaving from the village, through forest or across the plateaux — silence, ten minutes from the lifts.
The family-holiday staples, for the half-day when everyone's legs need a break from skis.
